A space designed to learn, move, explore — and have fun.
Working alongside the team at Chilwell Primary School, we were proud to bring their vision for an imaginative, nature-rich outdoor space to life.
Spanning over three months, this project was a full transformation of the school’s outdoor environment, blending playful elements with practical, durable construction to create something truly special for the students, staff, and community.
What we delivered:
- Full landscape and structure demolition
- Exposed aggregate paving & gravel paving zones
- A creative hand-placed pebble jump path using a mix of concrete and stone pavers
- Steel and brick edging for clean, safe transitions
- Bluestone steppers to encourage movement and exploration
- A mix of custom furniture, planters, and timber stools
- Installation of interactive playground pieces
- Timber shelters and a central timber stage
- A hand-crafted mud kitchen (yes, we made it ourselves!)
- Plenty of soft-fall mulch, new lawn, and feature planting
- …and of course, the water feature — a standout element that’s keeping the kids cool and endlessly entertained!
It’s more than a play space
This project is a great example of how a well designed outdoor environment can bring joy, support learning, and invite curiosity. With shaded areas for reflection, creative play zones, and elements of nature woven throughout, it’s a space that encourages both rest and imagination.
Big thanks again to everyone who helped bring this together, especially our incredible on-site team and trusted partners.
