Outdoor spaces in aged care facilities should be places residents love to spend time in, are welcoming, accessible, and beautiful enough to enjoy with family and visitors.
Courtyards like this one in Frankston are at the heart of aged care living. They’re where residents take their morning walk, sit with a visiting grandchild, or simply enjoy a moment of fresh air and green. When those spaces aren’t quite working – whether the layout needs rethinking, the planting needs refreshing, or the infrastructure needs upgrading, it’s worth getting them right.
That’s exactly what Brocor was brought in to do. Working through the space methodically, our team removed an existing water feature to open up the courtyard and improve flow, then set about bringing the gardens back to life. Existing plants were carefully pruned and reshaped, and new trees, shrubs and groundcovers were introduced to add colour, texture and seasonal interest throughout the year. Fresh bark mulch ties the garden beds together and gives everything a clean, cared-for finish.
Two shade sails have been installed, creating a comfortable, sheltered spot residents and their visitors can actually use, even on a warm day. Synthetic turf provides a lush, low-maintenance lawn that looks great in every season, and a new irrigation system ensures the planting stays healthy with minimal effort.
The result is exactly what a courtyard like this should be: vibrant, accessible, and a genuine pleasure to spend time in.
